I just went fishing yesterday here in southeast FL-- it was very windy so I stayed inside with my boat and fished the mangroves along isolated parts of the intercoastal around the Delray area. The water was shallow and the bait was small so I used a light weight spinning rod and 1/4 ounce jigs with plastic bodies.
After a little experimenting I found that the fish were most interested in green heads with a brown body. Caught 2 nice barracuda and a bunch of jacks and a big lady fish.
I noticed that the water was a bit murky and the sun was partially covered by clouds. This is why the light colored head worked well this day with a brown- shrip looking body. Good fishing from Fishzilla.
Going fishing again today for Spanish Mackrel.
Never got out yesterday-- got cuaght up in some family matters.
Will try again today. Looks like the weather is going to be good for fishing off shore around the Palm Beach area. Might try to get to the Gulf Stream to fish bigger stuff.
Finally got out today wind blowing 20-25 out of the south east-- surf was big and tough to fish so went inside and fished light gear in the mangroves along the intercoastal. My wife, Mrs Fishzilla and I caught a bunch of small stuff...nothing very interesting on plastic body jigs again.
Can't wait to get up north aand fish for some stripers-- they'll be in early May. Here is aphoto I found the other day of my friend Don with anice bass caught outside Boston Harbor on a Yuzori metal jig.
